Part 107

Part 107, which came into effect in August 2016, refers to the portion of FAA regulations relating to the operation of commercial and government use of drones weighing less than 55 pounds. These include operating requirements, vehicle registration requirements, pilot certification, UAS certification and other specifications.

Part 107 certification is the “Remote Pilot Certificate” credential issued by the FAA to those who successfully complete the FAA’s Small Unmanned Aircraft Knowledge Test. To pass the exam and become a certified commercial drone pilot, test takers must learn the FAA’s specified Airmen Certification Standards.
